General Updates:
Concerts & Performances
- High School Jazz Ensemble Concert - Monday, May 24, 2010
(7:00 pm)
- The high school jazz ensemble will be performing works by Sonny Rollins, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Billy Strayhorn, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Kenny Durham, and Lester Young. Please come out and enjoy the hard work that these students have put forth this semester!
- High School Band Spring Concert - Friday - May 28, 2010
(7:00 pm)
- Both high school bands will be performing new repertoire on this concert. The Symphonic Band will be performing Normandy Beach (John Edmondson), Fort Walton Adventure (Stephen Bulla), Yellow Mountains (Jacob de Haan), and Fantasy On An Irish Air (David Gorham). Mr. Gorham, the composer will be coming to work with our students prior to the concert and guest conduct on the performance. The Wind Symphony will be performing Shortcut Home (Dana Wilson), Perthshire Majesty (Samuel Hazo), Variations On A Korean Folk Song (John Barnes Chance), and Quality Plus (Fred Jewell). Gene Thrailkill, Director Emeritus from the University of Oklahoma will also be coming to work with our students and guest conduct on the evening's performance.
- UIL State Solo & Ensemble Contest - Saturday, May 29, 2010
(ALL Day)
- Students who were passed on from the regional round of UIL competition will be traveling with our choir and orchestra students to Austin, Texas to perform at the state level competition. Please double check with your student to insure that, if they are performing, they have the original copy of their music and have arranged for an accompanist to perform with their solo. More details will be available about this date as we move closer to the 29th.
- First Annual Lovejoy High School Graduation Ceremonies - Saturday, June 5 (7:30 am - 1:00 pm)
- All 9th - 11th grade members of the high school band will be performing at the first annual graduation ceremonies. More details for this performance will be available as the date nears.
Percussion Audition Information:
- High School Percussion Help Sessions:
- Monday, May 17, 2010 (6:00 - 7:30 pm)
- Thursday, May 20, 2010 (6:00 - 7:30 pm)
- Monday, May 24, 2010 (6:00 - 7:30 pm)
- All students planning to audition for next year's percussion section have received audition material from Mr. Lewis.
Everyone should plan on attending these three help sessions to assist in their preparation for tryouts.
- High School Percussion Auditions:
- Thursday, May 27, 2010 (4:45 - 7:00 pm)
- All 9th - 11th grade students auditioning for percussion will have their tryouts at this time.
Woodwind & Brass Audition Information
- Audition material for next year's performing groups will be passed out to students on Monday, May 10th.
Performance of this material will count as their final exam grade in band. Students will be assigned a five minute performance time block to come in, either before or after school, to record their auditions for the band staff to evaluate. These recordings will take place over three days - Tuesday, May 25th through Thursday, May 27th. A spreadsheet with audition times will be available for students and parents with the audition material on Monday, May 10th.

Drum Major & Student Leadership Team Packets
- Students interested in auditioning for positions on the student leadership team (i.e. section leaders) and drum major should pick up a packet from the band office on Monday, May 10th.
Anyone interested in serving the band in one of these roles will be expected to fill out the application packet and go through the audition/interview process.
- Leadership team interviews will be scheduled individually with students who complete an application packet. These interviews will take place the week of May 24th.
- Drum major candidates will also go through the application process and will interview with a member of the band staff.
